April 16 - Setting Sail on the Eclipse

We stopped for a quick breakfast at the Toasted Bagelry. Then we made our way to the Port of Miami, and dropped our check-in luggage. The porter said we could return the rental car at the International Hotel instead of going all the way to the airport. The GPS could not find an International Hotel, but did find a Hertz location within a few blocks on SE 2nd Street. They had a shuttle to the port, but it was very crowded, so Ron called Uber and we rode in comfort, and arrived before 11:30 AM (official check-in beginning).

We requested wheelchair assistance for me, and were put in a room to wait. My mobility issues and frequent waiting for assistance prompted the title "Slower Travels".....

Once aboard the ship, we were taken to the Buffet restaurant on Deck 4, and informed that the stateroom would not be ready until after 1 PM. The attendant left the wheelchair with us. We found a seat on the aft deck, and went to explore the vast food offerings. Ron chose some curry, and I had a beautiful baguette and an assortment of cheese. Chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs were available to help yourself.

We eventually piled the carry-on bags onto the wheelchair and proceeded to Room 8202, our home for the next 13 days. Smaller than what we've had on previous cruises, and less storage space, but we managed to get everything put away. Happy to have a nice balcony!

The Celebrity Eclipse was built in 2010, is 1,041 feet long, and accommodates 2,850 passengers. Much larger than previous ships we've sailed. Even though it is close to sold out, it never seems crowded except for the occasional bottleneck at the two banks of eight glass elevators mid-ship.

The main dining room is Moonlight Sonata, and takes up the entire aft section of the 3rd and 4th decks. We have "select" dining, which means we don't have assigned seating, and can dine whenever we wish. Moonlight is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also have access to the Oceanview Café, which has dozens of "stations" offering a wide range of food choices. There is also the Mast Grill for burgers and hotdogs. Several other restaurants are available for a premium charge. There is no shortage of dining and bars!

Unable to transfer photos from phone today, but we bought small camera, and will have photos available shortly......

Looking forward to lots of relaxation!
