June 21 - Mittenwald

A little after noon, we went to Mittenwald, and walked in the old city (pedestrian zone). We sat at Alpenrose, a restaurant I had read about. The menu was typical Bavarian fare, and I thought we might find something "better", so just had a drink.

Walking through the main street, we spotted a store specializing in tea, and noticed a sign that they carried Ronnefeldt. Several of the hotels we had stayed in had served Ronnefeldt Summer Gold Darjeeling, and I thought it was the best tea I've ever had. The lady spoke excellent English, and had a vast knowledge about tea. We bought the only two cartons she had left of the Summer Gold and also got a box of Assam that she recommended. Summer Gold is a second flush (picked in summer rather than spring), and has a darker color and stronger flavor. I read that its primary flavor is muscatel grape - AHA! Maybe that'w why I like it so much! Anyway, I was happy to find it, as we have looked in the past with no luck.

The next restaurant I wanted to walk to was the Romerschanz, which was approximately half a mile. Unfortunately, when we finally made it there (after numerous stops to rest on a bench), it was closed. I sat on their terrace, and Ron went to get the car and pick me up. We drove around a bit, and came upon a place that was open, Wirtshaus zum Platzl. I had a very delicate, tasty zander (a type of perch) and Ron had a curry wurst (sausage).

Unfortunately, when I transferred the pictures from the phones and camera to my computer, I erased them from the devices. A day or so later my computer was dead. We thought it was because of a frayed cord, and set out to try to buy a new universal laptop charger. We went to a large electronics store in the Tengelman complex. I was really happy when I saw their selection, as I thought one of their devices would work. The technician said no, that the little tip that fits into the computer did not match any of the numerous ones they had. I sat in the car while Ron went up to Tengelman. I researched on-line about charging an ASUS computer through a USB port, and some people reported it was possible. We had seen some kind of USB device in the store, so Ron went back and asked the technician. Again he said no, it isn't possible without some sort of expensive charging bank.

More to come on this saga. Surprised if you didn't hear the gnashing of teeth clear across the Atlantic!
